Structured data: helping engines read your page

The machine-readable summary that travels with every page, and why it matters.

What structured data is

Structured data is a machine-readable summary of a page, written in a standard format that search and answer engines understand. It restates the important facts of the page, this is an article, here is its title and author, here are the questions it answers and their answers, in a way a machine can read without having to interpret your layout.

You never write it by hand. RankMoss produces it with each piece and includes it in the delivery, so your site can render it alongside the visible content.

Why it helps you get cited

Engines are more confident quoting a page when they can parse it cleanly. Structured data removes ambiguity: instead of guessing which paragraph is the answer to a question, the engine is handed the question and answer explicitly. That makes your page easier to trust and easier to lift from.

It is particularly powerful for FAQ content, because each question and answer is labelled, so an engine can take exactly the one that matches what the user asked. This is a large part of why answer-first pages with a clear FAQ get quoted so often.

How it reaches your site

The structured data is delivered with the content so it lands wherever your page lives. On the common content platforms it is included automatically; for other channels it travels with the delivery so your site can render it. Either way it is part of the finished page, not something you bolt on later.
